Curriculum

At Hawthorn Academy, our curriculum is carefully designed to meet the complex needs of pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. Many of our pupils have experienced disrupted education or difficulties in mainstream settings, so our approach combines academic entitlement with therapeutic support. We provide a broad and balanced education that re-engages pupils in learning, rebuilds trust and confidence, and equips them with the life skills they need for independence, community participation, and meaningful futures.

Our curriculum is structured around inquiry-led themes that connect core subjects with personal development and life skills. This integrated approach supports emotional resilience, creativity, and social understanding, while also preparing pupils to achieve qualifications suited to their abilities and aspirations. By embedding therapeutic practice throughout, we ensure that every pupil is valued, included, and given the opportunity to thrive—academically, socially, and emotionally—so they can move forward with confidence into further education, training, or employment.
